Who I am and what I stand for

MEET THE FOUNDER

Hi, I'm Freya

I'm mother to a teenager and I raised him on my own for 13 years. I live in Somerset (England) and work full time in the world of the web, thankfully from home with my dogs and cats! I love gardening, crafting, cooking & baking, organising, decorating, entertaining and being at home with the people I love the most.

I started the Soggy Bottom for two reasons: firstly, because I crave more calm, order and peace in my homelife. And secondly, when I looked for tools to help me, everything was American!

I love researching, trying new things and being creative, so I started to take what I learned and make it work for me. The Soggy Bottom is a collation of my knowledge, tools, ideas and products that I use in my own home all the time.

How Can I Help You?

This website is a place for me to share what I've tried and perfected with you! My goal is to make your life simpler, easier, calmer and nicer, with some fuss-free recipes, planners and trackers, suggestions for natual swaps, and just general ideas.

You can expect to find things like:

Recipes - from Pina Colada to Yorkshire Pudding! With British measurements and ingredients, and an emphasis on 'simple'

Planners, Trackers & Databases - everything I use to manage my busy home and life - from chore charts to budgets

Natural Remedies - think homemade lip balm and herbal tea, because we all need less toxins in our lives!

Much of my content is free and I upload something new a couple of times a week - I'm always open to suggestions so feel free to send any questions or requests! Sometimes you will come across links to products I use - I only EVER recommend things I have tried and use regularly! I may earn a small commission if you choose to buy any, but it won't cost you any more. It just helps me keep the lights on!

**"Why the Soggy Bottom? It's such a weird name!"**

This question gets asked a lot! A few years ago my family looked into buying a country pub and turning it into a sort of tearoom with alcohol. It had a quaint stream running through the garden and we envisioned picnics and BBQs by the water, with our delicious bakes and lots of Prosecco. We were going to call it the Soggy Bottom, as a nod to Mary Berry!

But then Covid hit and our dream was shattered. I loved the name though, and sometimes it's just how life feels!
